A MOVIE ABOUT A DINOSAUR
comming 2025
From the Alps to the Hottest Desert in the World. In 2017/18, Ayla Zacek and I traveled from Switzerland to Iran. Accompanying us was a mechanical dinosaur, a kind of extraterrestrial exploring the human world. What began as a curiosity-driven experiment evolved into the vision for A Movie About A Dinosaur. The film uses the dinosaur’s poetic visual presence as a springboard to delve into existential questions about the individual and human civilization.
From Street Performance to Adventure Film. The dinosaur is something universally understandable and yet deeply enigmatic. Its movements invite people to guess its thoughts, projecting their own ideas onto it. In the way they interact with the dinosaur, they reveal something about themselves. The camera captures these encounters as they happen.
The film begins like a nature documentary: a disembodied voice narrates the behavior of a lone wandering creature. But then, the dinosaur encounters the world of humans. It explores ruined monumental buildings from the Soviet era, makes friends in a refugee camp (friends who break its heart), dances with free-standing oil pumps, defends itself from the guard dogs of a Kurdish village, panics at an Armenian art-scene party, eats watermelons from self-sufficient dropout families, is torn apart by hundreds of children in a Turkish schoolyard, and gets lost in the endless desert...

A "Docu-Fiction"... The odyssey of the dinosaur and the voice narrating its journey delves deeply into existential questions, offering a new perspective on our world through the dinosaur’s eyes. The finished film will be produced in English and German and is set in 2026.
